The Somerset West Lottery gives 60p from every £1 ticket sold to registered good causes with players choosing which cause they want to support. A total of £46,144 has been raised for local good causes in Taunton Deane and West Somerset since it was launched last year.

Taunton Town Football Club topped the table raising nearly £1,300 for its own funds via Lottery ticket sales.

Cllr Herbert said: “I would like to thank Taunton Town Football Club for registering and promoting the Somerset West Lottery. I am impressed by the tremendous effort of its supporters who raised a super amount for their Club. We are grateful to them all and wish the Club every success for the future. Thanks must also go to everyone who is promoting their organisation in the Lottery and to everyone who has bought a ticket. I am delighted by all their efforts in raising funds and helping our local communities.”

Taunton Town Football Club Chairman Kevin Sturmey, said: “We had been looking at setting up our own lottery scheme again which was very successful in the years before the National Lottery. But once we had seen the Somerset West Lottery scheme it was a no brainer for us to join. Not only does it raise vital funds for our club it also helps local good causes. We are passionate about our community and feel football can break down so many barriers.”

“We live in very socially challenging times and we want to help our town progress so the Taunton public are proud of their county town. To be top in the first year shows how important this football club is to the town and I urge more people to sign up and support us to stay at the top in year two. It’s easy to sign up but if you need help please let us know. PS The cake was lovely!”

The Somerset West Lottery is a joint initiative by Taunton Deane Borough and West Somerset Councils and a great way to support local charity and voluntary organisations.

Ninety-one organisations have signed up to benefit so far and 10 of these have over 100 people supporting their good cause each month.

Players have a 50 to one chance of winning one of the prizes, which range from the £25,000 jackpot to three extra tickets. So far 1543 players have won prizes, with 11 of them winning £250 and 155 winning £25. To buy your tickets or register as a good cause click HERE
