Christmas at The Museum of Somerset

Christmas at The Museum of Somerset

There will be plenty of festive fun at The Museum of Somerset this Christmas with seasonal events throughout the holidays.

Santa will be setting up his grotto in the alms house for visits every Saturday in December (advance booking is essential to avoid disappointment). After visiting Santa children can also follow the Elf Trail around the Museum in search of the cuddly Christmas Elves.

Susie Simmons, Visitor Services Manager, said: “Santa’s visit to the Museum is definitely one of our Christmas highlights. The grotto gets more magical each year and the elves always seem to select lovely presents for the children.”

On Saturday 8 December local arts and crafts will be showcased at the Museum’s Christmas Market with more than 30 stalls where visitors can find the perfect Christmas gift. Organised in conjunction with the Castle Hotel, the market will include festive food and drink and carol singing.  Entry is free.

On Tuesday 18 December the Museum welcomes the acclaimed historical musicians Chris Green and Sophie Matthewswith special guest Jude Rees, for ‘A Brief History of Christmas’. They will showcase 600 years of Christmas music, songs and carols.

Then on Friday 21 December the Museum will be serving a buffet-style two-course festive lunch in the evocative medieval surroundings of Castle House.

The Museum will also host Toddler Explorers Christmas Fun (age 1–3) on 7 December and Nostalgic Christmas Games and Toys on Saturday 29 December (age 3+).

Susie added: “We are very excited about our programme of Christmas events this year. We hope to get everyone into the festive spirit. You can even take part in our Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 14 December for 10% off at the Castle Café!”
