Individuals with the highest levels of integrity and accountability are being sought by Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens to sit on police officer misconduct hearing panels.

The PCC is looking for individuals who are committed to high standards of conduct and ethics and key skills required for those who apply for the position will include integrity, independence and judgement.

PCC Sue Mountstevens said: “Police officers are expected to demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and conduct in the service they provide. In cases where an officer may have fallen below these standards, local people have the right to expect the matter will be dealt with thoroughly and fairly.

“Becoming an independent person assisting police officer misconduct panels requires the ability to make fair and evidence based judgements about an officer’s conduct as well as deciding on appropriate sanctions.  As an impartial voice on the panel, your role will also provide assurance to our communities that conduct matters are treated seriously.”

As an Independent Person you will be expected to attend and participate in misconduct hearings as and when required and the appointment will be for an initial period of four years.  Allowances and expenses will be paid.

Sue continued: “It is really important to involve independent local people in policing and I am pleased to be able to offer this opportunity. I cannot do this role alone and want to hear from people who are committed to and passionate about improving policing.”

To apply or find out more information about the role visit the Job opportunities page on the PCC website www.avonandsomerset-pcc.gov.uk or call 01275 816377.

The closing date for applications is June 1, 2018 at 12 noon.  Selection days will take place week commencing July 23, 2018.
