Taunton Transition Town (TTT) together with Transition Town Wellington (TTW) have produced a map showing all the local bus routes in the Taunton and Wellington areas.
The groups identified the need because, although Buses of Somerset has timetables, there is no comprehensive information that covers all the services in the area – and beyond.
Mike Ginger of TTT said: ‘The idea for this map came partly from my own experience when I moved to Taunton. I wanted to find out about bus travel from the town but with numerous bus companies, there was no single source of information. It was a detective job to work out all the routes. I finally found that there is a surprising range of services which we try to show in the map. We hope it will give people ideas for bus trips including visits to the countryside.’
Anne Elliott-Day of TTW added: ‘The fact that people have to search out information online to find out about connecting services is not an incentive to use buses – and we need more people using public transport. This map aims to achieve that by promoting the range of services that is available.’
The pocket-sized map also has information about longer distance routes such as the Falcon service (Plymouth to Bristol) and Berrys Coaches (Tiverton to London) as well as walks that can be done using local bus routes. TTT and TTW would like to thank Redhill Farm Apple Juice for financial support towards the cost of producing the map.
The map is free and copies are available at Taunton Library, Taunton Visitor Centre, Wellington Library, Wellington Council office and the Blue Pantry (Wellington).
