Max Waller commits himself to Somerset

Max Waller has signed a new two-year T20 contract with Somerset County Cricket Club which will see the popular leg-spinner remain at the Cooper Associates County Ground until at least the end of the 2020 season.

Since making his debut for Somerset in 2009 Max has developed in to one of the most effective T20 bowlers in the country.

He has taken 111 wickets in his 111 T20 matches at an average of 23.14 with a best of four for 16.

The 30-year-old was one of Somerset’s top performers as his side qualified for Vitality Blast Finals Day in 2018 and he will be looking to help ensure that the Club lift that trophy in 2019. He will also be available for selection in the Royal London One-Day Cup if required.

After signing his new deal Max said: “I’m really pleased to have committed myself to Somerset for two more years. We came really close to winning silverware this year and both the Club and I share the same hunger and drive to achieve this. That is a massive reason for staying here at this special Club.

“There’s a genuine belief that this squad can achieve something great and I was always very keen to continue being a part of that.

2018 was my 11th season on the professional staff here at Somerset, and to be at one club for that length of time is something I’m very proud of.

“I’m already looking forward to next season and can’t wait to get out there, entertain and help Somerset win games of cricket in front of the fantastic Members and supporters who have been so supportive towards me for over a decade.”

Somerset Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry said: “Max has been an established player within T20 cricket for Somerset for a number of years and it was important for us to ensure that we retained him. I’m delighted that we have secured him at the Club within this format over the next two years.”

“His bowling, fielding and energy contribute significantly to driving the way that we want to play T20 cricket.”

“This is a bespoke contract that will enable Max to be available for all of our Vitality Blast games and will provide him the opportunity to apply his craft across Global T20 & T10 competitions outside of the Blast. In addition, there is also a provision within this new deal for him to be available for Somerset if called upon for the Royal London One-Day Cup.

“His enthusiasm for the game and his will to win are infectious and he will have an important role to play for us once again in next year’s Vitality Blast.”
