Chance for kids to design a Christmas card

SCHOOL children from Somerset are this month (February, 2017) being invited to design their own Christmas card and help raise funds for charity at the same time.

Youngsters aged 11-years-old and under can enter the competition devised by Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm and the winning entries will be made and sold in aid of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

Reg Hendy, owner of Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm, which is based at Middle Hill Farm in Langford Budville, explained: “We know how creative youngsters can be so we wanted to give them the chance to design their own Christmas card.

“We’re asking them to come up with an eye-catching festive design and incorporate everything we love about Christmas. We will then choose one winner and three runners up who will all have their cards made and sold in 2017 to raise money for CHSW. The winner will also receive one of our home-grown Christmas trees.”

Entries can be hand-drawn or computer generated and can be in colour or black and white. All we ask is that there is a festive theme.

People should send their entries to info@langfordlakes.co.uk or post them to Nick Hendy, Manager at Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm, Middle Hill Farm, Langford Budville, Somerset, TA21 0RS before 5pm on Friday, June 30, 2017.

All entries must be accompanied with the child’s full name, age, school and contact details. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

CHSW is currently the only provider of specialist hospice care for children in the region. It offers much needed support for youngsters with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition and their families at its three hospices: Charlton Farm in North Somerset, Little Bridge House in North Devon and Little Harbour in Cornwall.

Paula Garrett, Community Fundraiser for CHSW, said: “This is such a great idea and a fantastic way to raise awareness and funds for our three hospices. We hope lots of schoolchildren in the area take part and send in their festive designs. We can’t wait to see the greetings cards in all their glory in November.”
