Weavers reach Wellington

Wellington affordable homes develoment complete

Somerset West and Taunton Council has completed the development of 26 new affordable homes at Rockwell Green, Wellington.

The £3.6m scheme to regenerate the area included demolition of the Weavers Arms public house, the adjacent public toilet block and ten Woolaway properties in Oaken Ground.

The new sustainable community provides a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom properties including flats, houses and bungalows. The modern, energy efficient homes with car parking meet a range of housing needs for the area. Five of the new homes have been built to wheelchair accessible standards.

All 26 homes at the Weavers Arms site are affordable housing – subsidised, unlike open market housing – with the aim of meeting the needs of local people who may be priced out of other properties.

Two of the homes have been sold as shared ownership to broaden the type of tenures available and offer a form of low cost homeownership.

Shane Smith, Development Manager at SWT, said: “We are so pleased to complete this development of 26 affordable homes in Wellington. These new properties are great quality, roomy and energy efficient and should make a real difference to the lives of people who will live in them.”
