A Village pub based in the Blackdown Hills recently held a 3 day event all in the name of charity.
The Candlelight Inn located in Bishopswood, Nr Taunton has presented a cheque for £6000 to St Margaret’s Hospice. The money was raised through a series of events over the May bank holiday, including a six-course ‘Candlelight Supper Club’, charity auction, and two-day beer festival.
Now in its second year, this charity event began with an evening were diners were treated to a sumptuous six course tasting menu, followed by after dinner guest speaker’s David & Patrick McCaig, from the Otter Brewery. The evening was rounded off with a very successful charity auction presented by Andrew Luxton, from Stags in Honiton.
Not only was the event supported by a host of local businesses, all of the staff from the Candlelight gave their time for free on the charity evening.
The charity event continued into the Whitsun holiday weekend with the hugely popular Candlelight Beer Festival. With live music, BBQ, good weather, and a huge choice of beers, ales and ciders to choose from, many people came to soak up the atmosphere and support this very worthwhile cause.
Mike Rose, owner of the Candlelight Inn commented; “We are delighted to be able to present St Margaret’s with this cheque for £6000 to help support the work, of this most valuable local charity. This was such an amazing event. Last year we raised over £1200, and this year with the help of the community, and local businesses, we have smashed our target. Thank you to everyone involved, who helped to make this event possible. It was truly epic, and we can’t wait for next year!”
In October 2017, the Candlelight won the prestigious Somerset Life Food & Drink award for Customer Service, and ranks month on month, as one of OpenTable ‘s Diner’s Choice’ restaurants.
