Vandalism and thefts delay Taunton collections

Thieves and vandals who damaged recycling trucks over the weekend are responsible for hundreds of household waste collections in parts of Taunton Deane being delayed or missed today.

Around 15 vehicles were temporarily put out of action in the attack on trucks parked at a depot. After repairs are completed today, the trucks will get back on the road in an effort to catch up on their Monday rounds.

Residents who usually have a Monday recycling and/or rubbish collection should leave containers out until late today. If missed today, they should put the containers out again on Tuesday as crews will make every effort to return to complete the collection.

If waste cannot wait, all recycling sites are open today, including Taunton 8am-4pm and Wellington 8am-7pm.

SWP has issued an appeal for information about the crooks: “If you have any information about the criminals responsible for delaying collections and damaging vehicles, please contact the police or Crimestoppers.”

The police can be contact on non-emergency number 101 & Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111
