The final contingent of the Taunton Running Club’s 2018 “Couch to 5K” programme graduated last Sunday.
The club has seen over 160 runners join the successful introduction to running sessions this year, many of whom have continued their running with the club’s various groups. Many runners have progressed to 10K, half marathons and marathons.
This last group of “Couchers” has battled with cold, windy and rainy training sessions before arriving at Longrun Meadow on Sunday the 16th December for their final test over 5K.
The weather was dry and crisp but perfect for running, although the lake-sized puddles left by the previous day’s heavy rain proved a slight challenge. Many club members volunteered to help them around the course and encouraged them to maintain a sensible pace, as no walking was allowed in the graduation 5K.
There so many smiles of achievement as they crossed the finish line and then received the medals and certificates.
Michael Sharpe, Club Captain, said “We are so proud to provide the free Couch to 5K programme to our community in and around Taunton. Helping others improve their health and well-being by is the responsibility we take very seriously. Our programme provides advice on breathing, technique & diet and helps so much with the difficult transition from total beginner to a runner”.
The next C25K programme will start in 2019, once the Spring weather takes hold. All Blacks sibling, Wellington Running Club start their first Couch to 5K programme on January the 7th (see their FaceBook page)
