A Taunton mum who provides parenting services to the community has been nominated for an award.
Kate Mahoney of Priorswood is part of Community Interest Company, “Carry Me Kate Parenting services”.
They support parents with a baby sling library, breastfeeding peer support, a friendly social meet and consultancy service for people wanting to try out different types of baby carriers in the Somerset and Devon areas.
Kate told Tone FM; “I received an email telling me I had been nominated for the Top 100 West Woman of the Year awards! Unbeknown to me the lovely Mel from Towards Tomorrow Together had put forward the nominated for an award and I have been chosen as one of the top 100 inspirational women.”
“I’m really excited as I get to go to a very posh awards do in Bristol on May 16th. Someone thinks I am inspirational which is so lovely. I don’t think I am though. I cried when I got the email.”
I love helping others, parenting is “hard” Kate said, whatever your circumstances and having someone hold your hand and helping you is sometimes needed. I just want to support those parents who want/need it.
“It is my passion, it is my joy. I’m just me, bumbling along and if I can help a few parents along the way, that’s all I want.”
Carry Me Kate was set up out of a love and a passion, a love for her children, Lily who was stillborn, Alex, aged 4 1/2 and now Charlie who is almost 2.
Originally Carry me Kate was set up to help parents, initially for those who wanted to carry their children, and as time has gone on to help those who want to breastfeed, and finally the bigger picture is to help to change the mind-set of the next generation by building secure attachments, helping parents to be responsive and to enable them to help their children be the best they can be.
