Don’t be lonely this Christmas

Anyone who fears they may be lonely this Christmas is being urged to make use of a directory of events and activities available over the festive season.

The festive season is a time when families and friends traditionally get together but it can be tough for anyone who is on their own, not through choice.

Somerset Village Agents (part of the Community Council for Somerset) have put together a list of activities and events which are going on across Somerset over Christmas and New Year. These include Christmas dinners, carol concerts, festive markets, quiz nights, cake and coffee mornings, bingo and much more.

So, if you would like a bit of company and you don’t want to spend the festive period alone, visit: www.somersetrcc.org.uk/christmas to find an event near you.

Councillor Christine Lawrence, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “Christmas can be a tough time for people who are already feeling lonely.

“If you are at a loose end and you want to spend time over Christmas and New Year in the company of others the Village Agents Christmas Directory is a great place to find an event to suit you.

“Somerset Village Agents and communities do an amazing job all year round to support people. They offer a whole range of activities to help people find connections in their local area and meet like-minded people. Whatever your interests there will be a group that is waiting to welcome you.”

Somerset County Council work in partnership with the Community Council for Somerset (CCS) to deliver the network of Village Agents, Community Agents and Carers Agents in the county.
