Signal Alterations for Main Road in Wellington

Signal Alterations for Main Road in Wellington

One of the main routes in Wellington is set for traffic signal alterations, in an attempt to improve capacity of one of its busiest junctions.

Somerset County Council will be altering the operation of Longforth Rd Junction as part of its long-term Highways Small Improvement Scheme. It’s being co-ordinated with essential resurfacing, delivered under a road closure.

Works are due to start tonight, (Monday 23 April), ready for the new system to come into operation on 3 May.

It will involve planned signal alterations at the junction affecting Taunton Road, High Street and Longforth Road, Wellington, including the addition of a right turn lane from High Street in a bid to improve junction capacity.

Please be aware that traffic on the main road approaches will now operate together with right turn traffic heading towards Longforth Road and Waitrose giving way to ahead movements. A new right turn arrow will also be introduced when travelling to Longforth Road.

Works will be carried out under an evening closure, from 6.30pm until 11.30pm and a diversion will be in place.

Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Whilst we’ve already carried out much of the key work needed on Longforth road, we’ve had to wait for sufficient road space to get the junction improvement completed. We’ll be working closely with all those affected to keep disruption to a minimum.”
