Taunton Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets are calling for people to come on board this February to see how being a cadet or adult volunteer can make a difference to their lives.
The unit, which meets at Norton Manor Camp, is welcoming new cadets and volunteers as part of Sea Cadets’ national campaign, #NeverOrdinary, which runs throughout the month and aims to raise awareness of what the charity can offer.
At Taunton unit, young people aged between 10 and 17 can enjoy sailing, powerboating, kayaking, band, first aid, field craft and catering amongst other activities, giving them self-belief and boosting their CVs. In a recent survey, 94% of parents said they felt their child’s self-confidence, motivation and team-working had “greatly improved” at Sea Cadets.
Adult Volunteers, meanwhile, can earn qualifications whilst helping young people to develop and flourish. There are lots of roles to match different expertise, such as helping manage finances and budgets, fundraising for the unit, organising events and building corporate relationships with local businesses. Alternatively, you could show cadets how to sail, powerboat, kayak, windsurf, play football or learn first aid. All volunteers will receive an induction and will be given training and support.
Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Rebecca Kerswell, Taunton Unit’s Commanding Officer, said, “Sea Cadets offers so many opportunities to both young people and adults. It is important to remember that we are an independent charity that relies on volunteers in the local community to help make a positive difference to the lives of so many children and teenagers.
If you think you could help us, please get in touch. Likewise, if you are between the ages of 10 and 17 and are interested in becoming a Sea Cadet or a Royal Marines Cadet, we would love to hear from you.”
Taunton Sea & Royal Marines Cadets meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at their unit at Norton Manor Camp between 6.45pm and 9.15pm. To find out more, visit: www.sea-cadets.org/taunton
