Refill your water bottle at County Hall

With temperatures rising this week there’s good news for the dry-mouthed and eco-conscious – you can now use Somerset County Council’s Taunton HQ to top up drinks bottles.

The water cooler in County Hall’s A block has joined a list of more than 1,600 publically accessible refill points across the UK. It is being promoted through an app as a place where anyone is welcome to refill a water bottle, whether they are visiting the Council or just passing by.

The app is available through the www.refill.org.uk website that has more information about the Refill Movement – a free tap water initiative to reduce plastic pollution and promote healthy hydration.

The Council has taken this step with the support of the Somerset Waste Partnership which is committed to reducing the use of plastics wherever possible.

Leader of the Council, Councillor David Fothergill said: “There’s no cost to the Council and this is a simple way of helping people protect the environment and save money by not having to splash out on bottled water.

“Research shows that people are open to change and we’re just trying to make it a little easier.”
