Notice of Election for new Council

The formal Notices of Election for the new Somerset West and Taunton council – and parish councils in its boundaries – have been published.

The Notice for the new district council details the wards and the number of councillors to be elected to each electoral ward on Thursday May 2nd. The Notice for parishes sets out the name of each parish/parish ward and the number of councillors to be elected.

The new district council, created to replace the existing Taunton Deane Borough and West Somerset Councils, will have 59 councillors elected in 35 wards.

Application forms can be downloaded at www.gov.uk/browse/citizenship/voting

Completed forms should be returned to the Returning Officer at either West Somerset House, Williton, TA4 4QA; or Deane House, Belvedere Road, Taunton, TA1 1HE, between 10am and 4pm on any weekday between 19th March and 3rd April.

All nominations must be received by 4pm on Wednesday April 3rd. The closing date to register to vote in the district and parish elections in Friday April 12th. The closing date to apply to vote by post is 5pm on Monday April 15th. The closing date to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday April 24th.
