Taunton gains garden Town status

Meetings move as TDBC refurbish

BOROUGH Council meetings traditionally held at The Deane House in Taunton will be moving to temporary venues from next month.

The change is being made as the council starts to prepare for the refurbishment of its headquarters later in the year. As a result committee rooms will be taken out of public service. The last scheduled meeting which will take place in the John Meikle Room (the council chamber) this year will be the Executive on 3 August.

From then on the venue for all future meetings of the Council’s Committees (except Planning Committees and meetings of Full Council) will be:

  • The Brittons Ash Community Centre, Bridgwater Road (A38), Bathpool, Taunton, TA2 8FT.
  • Planning Committee meetings will be held in the Main Hall of the new West Monkton Primary School (alongside The Brittons Ash Community Centre –TA2 8FT). Once this arrangement begins, meetings will start at 6.15 p.m. and not 5 p.m.

Full Council meetings are due to be held at Shire Hall, Upper High Street, Taunton, TA1 4EU. The first one scheduled to take place away from The Deane House will be on 3 October 2017.

The venues in West Monkton have parking available nearby and are served by the 21/21A First bus service which operate into the evening.

Cllr Mark Edwards, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Business Development and Assets, said: “This is a good opportunity for us as a council to get out into the community that we serve. I hope that this may encourage more people to come along to our meetings.”

Further updates on the refurbishment will be provided regularly in future.
