Mayor launches Taunton’s new Foxglove Cycle Trail

Taunton’s first ever town cycle trail was launched on Saturday, June 9th at an event in the Town centre with the Mayor, Cllr Catherine Herbert by handing out the first free copies of the Foxglove Trail map to local residents.

Taunton Area Cycling Campaign who produced the map with financial assistance from Taunton Deane Borough Council’s Unparished Fund.

The launch of the trail also coincides with first day of National Bike Week, June 9th – 17th. Copies of the new map will be available to shoppers from Saturday onwards from the Taunton Visitor Centre.

Mayor launches Taunton’s new Foxglove Cycle Trail

The Foxglove Trail is an 11 mile circular and mainly flat cycle ride through Taunton’s Green spaces enabling you to discover parts of Taunton you don’t know. It is suitable for families. You can join it at any point to come back to the same spot. The trail follows some of the town’s traffic free paths and mainly quiet roads. It is waymarked in one direction with Foxglove Trail stickers and small directional arrows.

TACC are organising a free led ride of the Foxglove Trail on Sunday 17th June leaving Vivary park at 10.30am. To register and for further information email contact@thetacc.org.uk

A TACC member who has been involved in the project, Mike Ginger, said ‘We are campaigning for a consistent and coherent cycle network. The town does already have some pleasant sections of network. The aim of the project is to link some of these, together with attractive watercourses, open spaces and wildlife rich area to provide an enjoyable cycling experience for young and old’
