Major resurfacing on East Reach to start

Major resurfacing is planned on one of the main routes into Taunton next month.

Sections of the A38 East Reach are showing signs of significant deterioration and will be resurfaced as part of Somerset County Council’s structural maintenance programme.

Work starts on Monday 18th June and will be carried out during off-peak hours (6.30pm to 11.30pm) to minimise disruption.

Temporary traffic lights will be required during these times and there will also be restrictions or closures on several side roads, including Victoria Street, South Street, Haydon Road and Eastbourne Road. The entire scheme is expected to take approximately 15 nights, excluding weekends.

Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “I’m sure anyone who has driven along East Reach in recent times will agree that repairs are needed.

“I’m very pleased we have been able to plan an extensive resurfacing scheme – we’re not just filling the potholes, we are removing and replacing the top layer of the road which will stop them reforming.”
