Local running event sells out in record time

Organisers of the annual Stoke Stampede have been left amazed as their running event sells out in a new record time of just 8 hours.

For the second year running a maximum 450 lucky sports enthusiasts have secured themselves a place in the line-up of what is fast becoming the most popular 10K race in the South West.

The Stoke Stampede which is held is Stoke St. Gregory, Nr Taunton is approaching it’s 30th anniversary and has grown in popularity. With 450 race places the race is now at its limit as the organisers want to ensure the race maintains it friendly village feel and to ensure safety for everyone. The restricted parking in the village is a key part of that and always very well managed.

Committee member Alfred Van Pelt commented; “We love doing this event, we have had great feedback from the runners over the years and it’s a nice course to run but the support and atmosphere in the village on the day is lovely for the runners and their well wishers. The locals marshall the event and they always give a cheer.”

“All finishers now receive a medal which has proven popular with runners, this was something we introduced for the first time in January 2018 and think it’s great that participants get a little something in return.”

With registration now closed and all key tasks of organising the race all sorted the final preparations for the race begin.

If you’ve missed out on entering the race but still want to be a part of it then you can come and watch the race on 6th January or you can get involved in the organisation.

Volunteers wanting to help out either in the preparation or on the day itself can contact alfred@stokestampede.co.uk or leave a message on the Stoke Stampede Facebook page.
