Have your say on Somerset’s Health and Care

Two new evening drop-in dates have been announced giving residents more chance to have their say on how they’d like health and care delivered across Somerset in future.

Organised in direct response to comments from members of the public who wanted more chance to have their say on Somerset’s new health and care programme ‘Fit for my future’, the two new evening sessions will take place at the Albermarle Centre, Taunton, Thursday 22 November and Wells Town Hall, Thursday 6 December, both 6pm-9pm.

Fit for my future sets out how Somerset CCG, Somerset’s NHS Trusts and Somerset County Council plan to work together to support people with their health and care needs, whilst ensuring Somerset’s health and care system is sustainable for the long-term.

Long lives, lived independently and in good health for as long as possible is the programme’s ultimate goal through supporting and encouraging people to stay well and prevent illness in the first place.

And when residents do need extra health and care support, they receive it in a way that best meets their individual needs. Many have already told us they want to remain at home or in their community for as long as they can.

Dr Rosie Benneyworth, Director of Strategic Clinical Services Transformation at Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group said: “We are delighted to announce two new evening dates will join our existing Fit for my future public drop-in sessions. I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to come along and find out why we need to change, talk to staff to learn more and share their thoughts on our new emerging health and care proposals so far.”

A number of services are under review as part of the programme. These include mental health, maternity and children’s services, learning disabilities, cancer treatments, planned care (usually non-emergency), long-term conditions (such as diabetes), frailty and urgent and emergency care.

Already ten drop-in sessions have taken place across Somerset, with a further six planned over the coming weeks. These two new evening events take the total number of public drop-in sessions to 18.
