Grant boost for Somerset youth clubs

Youth clubs across Somerset have netted a share of more than £105,000 in grants from Somerset County Council’s Youth and Community Service.

The grants, for 34 youth clubs in total, will support projects across the county to help run popular sessions. They are matched by over £287,000 in locally raised funding and hundreds of hours in volunteers’ time – all for the benefit of Somerset’s young people.

Cabinet member for Children and Young People, Councillor Frances Nicholson, said: “Provision for our young people is incredibly important so I am really pleased we are able to provide these grants, which, combined with money raised by local communities, ensure the clubs are sustainable.

“Central of course to ensuring there is good support for young people is the dedicated hard work of the volunteers – without whom there would be no youth clubs.”

Taunton Deane clubs awards are,

  • Creech St Michael £3000
  • Halcon Youth Club £3500
  • Kingston St Mary £3481
  • Café Random, Wiveliscombe £2700
