Taunton School’s Chief Operating Officer Nicola Miller claimed the top spot last month at the ETU European AG Duathlon Championships 2018 representing Great Britain in the Age Groups category.
The event, held in Ibiza as part of the European Multisport festival, saw elite athletes from all over continent competing.
The duathlon involved a 10km run, 40km ride and 5km run.
Nicola Miller, who pre-qualified by getting a bronze in the same event in Spain last year said: “I did the first 10k in 43 mins and the 5k in 22 mins so managed to maintain pace well with a total time of 2 hours and 8 minutes. Competition was strong with a lady from Germany chasing me all the way. Winning the Gold Medal was a real surprise although I’d felt strong in the final weeks of preparation.”
She added: “The 25 degree temperature was tough going but I’d trained really hard all year, getting up a 0530 each morning to manage the hours, so am really pleased with the outcome.”
Next for Nicola is the World Championships in April 2019 which will take place in Pontevedra, Spain.
