Free Pop-up business school comes to Taunton

A free Pop-Up Business School is coming to Taunton this February to help to locals start their own business without initial investment.

The scheme is part of the Positive People programme, funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund.

From Monday 5th February, the Pop-Up Business School will run a ten-day course at Taunton Library to help potential entrepreneurs, small businesses and start-ups take their business ideas forward.

The full two-week schedule includes practical sessions to help participants towards making their first sale.

Workshops will include topics such as starting a business without investment, sales and marketing, building a free website and finding customers. Participants can choose from a variety of free workshops or attend the full two-week course.

Emma Westcott, partnership manager at Positive People Somerset, says, “The team from Pop-Up Business School have seen some great results from the courses they have run in other parts of the country.

Anyone in the Taunton area who would like to learn new skills or who has a business idea or a fledgling business is welcome on the course and will take home with them practical advice, training and a clear way forward. We are excited to bring the opportunity to Taunton and help people achieve their goals.”

Alan Donegan, Pop-Up Business School, co-founder, says “What I like most about teaching aspiring entrepreneurs is changing people’s perceptions of what is possible for them, altering the way they look at business and helping them to see a brighter future that they can take charge of. Our approach is not traditional. We don’t bother with business plans. We don’t believe in loans and grants. We know that puts more people off starting than it helps. 30% of the people that come on our course start their business before the end of the workshop and 27% make their first sale. ”

The Positive People project in Somerset offers a lifeline to people who are not in work, helping to build confidence, skills and give a sense of hope for the future through involvement in a range of activities. Positive People is a partnership between Pluss, Abilities, Cosmic, Community Council for Somerset and Inspired to Achieve.
