MOTORISTS in Somerset helped raise £300 for a scout group and a Taunton-based charity by paying to have their cars washed last Saturday (May 12, 2018).
Rumwell Farm Shop and the Wellington Explorer Scouts teamed up on May 12 to raise money for Headway Somerset and the scout group.
Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the farm shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, said: “We’re delighted so many people took advantage and supported the car wash, which was held for two great local causes.
“Headway Somerset is one of our charities of the year and we are so pleased that the Explorer Scouts were happy to come on board this year to help us with the fundraiser, and also collected some money for their own activities.”
The car wash was held in the Rumwell Farm Shop car park and cost £4 per vehicle with £2 going to the Wellington Explorer Scouts and £2 to Headway Somerset.
Anne added: “The £300 was divided equally between the two organisations and they both received £150 each. We would like to say thank you to the Wellington Explorer Scouts for doing such a fantastic job and making each car sparkle.”
Headway Somerset provides social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with brain injury and support and respite for their families through its four Brain Injury Centres based in Bridgwater, Henton, Yeovil & Taunton.
Deborah Parsons, Community Fundraiser at Headway Somerset, said: “We really appreciate the Wellington Explorer Scouts sharing their profits from the car wash with us. It’s just great to see young people in the local area fundraising to help others in need.”
Explorers are young adults between 14 and 18-years-old. They meet together once a week in an Explorer Scout Unit. Explorers can gain a wide range of badges and awards, particularly activity badges. These can range from canoeing and mountain biking to sports and public relations.
Simon Cook, Explorer Scout Leader, said: “We had a great day and would like to thank everyone who popped along to have their cars cleaned. The money raised will be going towards our activities such as kayaking, climbing and a camp.”
