Beekeeping taster session to be held

A BEEKEEPING taster session will be held near Taunton on Saturday, September 9.

Taunton Beekeepers are offering the chance to find out more about honeybees and see inside a hive.

Mike Dillon, training co-ordinator, said: “We will be giving visitors an overview of what’s involved in keeping bees. They will have the chance to see inside a hive and experience the fascinating world of the honey bee first hand.”

Visitors will be given a talk at the teaching centre at Heatherton Park, near Bradford-on-Tone, and afterwards, weather permitting, will be invite to kit up in bee suits to observe honeybees in the apiary.

“Beekeeping is a fascinating subject to study whether you are thinking of keeping bees or just interested in observing nature and understanding how bees make honey. This is an ideal way to learn more, and get answers from an experienced beekeeper to any questions you may have,” he added.

Protective clothing will be provided but people must bring along wellington boots.

The session starts at 2.30pm on Saturday, September 9. To book a place, priced £35.00, contact:  Mike Dillon, Training Co-ordinator, Taunton & District Beekeepers Association, mikedillonbees@gmail.com or 01823 669619/ 07585537030.
