Arrest made following attack on D-Day veteran

Avon & Somerset Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with an attack on a D-Day veteran at his home in Taunton.

This morning, officers arrested the man on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated burglary.

The arrest comes after an incident in Gipsy Lane on Wednesday afternoon in which 96-year-old Jim Booth, a veteran of the D-Day operation in World War Two, was attacked and left with serious injuries to his head and body.

Mr Booth’s condition is described as serious but stable.

DCI James Riccio said: “We’ve made an arrest following investigative work carried out since the attack on Wednesday.

“We’ve updated Mr Booth’s family and will continue to support them.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has phoned in with information following our public appeal for information yesterday.”
