Wellington Road to be closed inbound

Wessex Water will be working in Taunton next month to improve the town’s water supply and help spot leaks.

Work will start on the A38 Wellington Road on Friday 15 February and run for up to two weeks. This has been scheduled to coincide with the school half-term break when traffic should be reduced at peak times.

A spokesperson commented; “To allow this work to be carried out, the inward-bound lane of Wellington Road will be closed after the roundabout with traffic diverted via Silkmills and the A358.”

“Outbound traffic will be unaffected, with access to households and businesses maintained.”

Wessex Water’s Mark Floyd, who is planning the work, said: “It’s likely there will be an increase in traffic through the Galmington Trading Estate while we’re working on Wellington Road, so we’ll be liaising with Somerset Highways to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.

“We will be installing a new pressure-relief system and flowmeter in Wellington Road that will ensure a more reliable water supply and help us to identify leaks in the future.

“Customers’ water supplies won’t be affected, but we appreciate this is a busy route in and out of Taunton and we’re sorry for any inconvenience that may be caused by this essential work.”
