Road resurfacing to start soon

A361 to close for essential resurfacing

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys carefully when a busy road on the outskirts of Taunton is closed for essential maintenance later this month.

A 1.7-mile section of the A361 near Durston between Walford Cross and the Sedgemoor border is showing signs of deterioration and will be fully resurfaced.

Due to the narrow width of the carriageway it will be necessary to close the road during working hours to keep both road users and the workforce safe.

Works start on Monday 19 February with the road closed for 15 days between 7.30am to 6.30pm.

Works in the Walford Cross junction area will be carried out at night to minimise disruption to local businesses. This is programmed to start on Wednesday 28 February and take three nights, with the road closed from 6pm to 7am.

Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “This is essential work to improve a very important road. However, it will cause some short-term disruption so please be aware of the closure dates and times and plan your journey carefully.”

A suggested diversion route suitable for all vehicles can be found at www.travelsomerset.co.uk/roadworks or will be clearly signposted on site. As with any road closure, drivers are free to find their own alternatives.
