The Importance of Being Earnest
19 July 2019 - 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm| £5 – £12
This year’s Taunton Thespians Summer Tour is Oscar Wilde’s glorious comedy The Importance of Being Earnest at ten glorious outdoor venues across the county during mid July.
Wilde described it as “A trivial comedy for serious people” and packed it full of wit and wordplay of the finest kind.
Whilst the two leading characters (Algernon and Jack) are men, in common with all drama of the time, in this play Wilde created two very strong female leading roles in Gwendolen and Cecily. The ladies are by no stretch of the imagination the weaker sex in this play – and that’s before we talk about Lady Bracknell. Everyone knows her line, usually intoned in imitation of Edith Evans: “A hand-bag?”, though few have actually seen it!
Come along to Queens College Taunton or one of our countywide venues with friends, a picnic.and don’t forget the chairs!
All the venues will be open from 6pm, and the performance will start at 7.30pm every evening. We look forward to seeing you there! For a full venue list and tickets go to www.tauntonthespians.org.uk and these are ‘Open’ tickets so may be used at any venue.
