Grazing not Gazing Film Workshop
1 February 2020 - 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
One event on 2 February 2020 at 10:00 am
Responding to Ben Rivers Urthworks exploration of ‘other worldliness in the world around us’, artists Katie Davis and Vicky Smith use approaches central to their own practices to conceive a 2-day 16mm film shoot and process workshop.
Using extension tubes, wide lenses and B&W fine grain negative film, the grazing not gazing workshop explores the transformative potential of macro film-making, where small things filmed close up, lacking external reference or perspective, seem altered, appearing as vast and textured landscapes. The workshop builds on skills and approaches to using the 16mm Bolex camera that formed the 2018 Somerset Film workshop Tracks and Traces.
This workshop takes place from Saturday 1 February 10.00 to 18.00 and Sunday 2 February 10.00 to 13.00. Tickets cost £40 each, which includes both days.
Supported by Somerset Art Works, Somerset Film, Arts Council England, Hestercombe Gallery and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
