Gin, fizz and food festival coming to Taunton

A new food and drink festival is coming to Taunton this June.

Charley Elizabeth Events is to present an exciting not to be missed event – the Gin, Fizz & Food Festival, being held at Woodlands Castle Conference & Events Venue in Taunton, on Saturday 2nd June.

The event has been founded by Charley Torr, business owner of an emerging and inspiring Somerset based business, Charley Elizabeth Events.

The festival will take place at the stunning Woodlands Castle venue, Taunton & owned by Sir Benjamin Slade. The venue is home to a charming 17th Century country house and beautiful garden pavilion overlooking lawns and woodland.

This festival aims to celebrate gin, fizz and food in the South West, offering a wonderful selection of local gins including Wicked Wolf Exmoor Gin, Exeter Gin, and Granny Garbutt’s Gin; Dartmoor Spirit Craft Distillery’s Ten Tor Seasonal Gin; and raspberry flavoured national favourite, Pinkster Gin.  Devon based Wellhayes Vineyard will be the guest fizz supplier showcasing their very own English sparkling wine.

Visitors will be warmly welcomed with a wrist band, gin guide and event schedule of what’s on.  The event will run from 12noon and will close at 7pm. Adult tickets are £5.00, and children will be offered free entry as part of a family.

There will be a schedule of talks and demonstrations including a ‘Pinkster Gin Masterclass’, sharing secrets to success in making the perfect Pinkster cocktail. Martin Straus, The Drinks Professional and founder of the new Taunton Gin Club will be our ‘gin guru’ presenting talks on ‘How to Choose the Right Gin for You’, ‘How to Pair Food & Drink’, and ‘How to Make Gin &Fizz Cocktails at Home’. Martin is the Chairman of the UK Bartenders Guild South West and is the business owner of ‘Taste with Martin’.

The award-winning Exeter Gin Managing Director Karen Skerratt, will be sharing the stories behind Granny Garbutt’s Gin, Grandad’s Revenge and Exeter Gin as well as offering a talk around ‘Experimenting with Gin’. Talented business woman Karen Skerratt is also a Director for the Hubb Group Ltd responsible for successful events including Exeter Street Food and Bath Street Food.

Mark Potts, the Head Chef at the luxurious 4 Star Mount Somerset Hotel & Spa with 3 Rosette Restaurant, will be giving a sensational ‘Cooking with Gin Masterclass’. Mark is extremely passionate about his work, bringing culinary skills honed during placements in the kitchens of world-class names such as Noma, Le Manoir and Eleven Madison Park and his previous positions at Jesmonds of Highworth, Lords of the Manor and Fallowfields.

There will be a talented selection of South West food and drink suppliers serving up a feast at the festival including Artisan Stone Baked Pizza’s, the Notorious P.I.G. Hog Roast, Wheelie Tipsy’s Cocktail Bar and the fabulous Gin & Sin Company Gin & Tonic Bar. The event will also feature a ‘Pimp Your Prosecco’ station alongside various gin and prosecco cocktails.

The festival as an exciting line up of live music during the day; featuring Sadie Horler an acoustic singer song writer from Devon, fiddle and guitar folk Duo Mitchell & Vincent, smooth and swing vocalist Matt Hudson and Marnie an acoustic rock soul funk & blues guitarist and singer. Visitors will be able to relax outside on the lawn whilst listening to live performances on the house terrace.

Gertie the VW Photo Bus will be at the event with lots of wonderful vintage props to enjoy whilst posing for fun with friends and loved ones, Gertie will print the photos on the day for visitors.

Visitors can enjoy a cream tea at the Mad Hatter’s Tearoom, serving a variety of delicious homemade cakes including Lin C’s gin & tonic cake especially made for the event.

There will be lots of lovely stalls for visitors to peruse including award winning local food and drink producers, garden crafts, gin cupcakes and cookies, boozy bakes, prosecco-based beauty products and lots more. There will be glitter face painting, lawn games including a coconut shy, hoopla and hook a duck, a vintage ice cream bike and a bouncy castle for the children.
