Learning difficulties award for Alex

Alex Roland from Bridgwater has just scooped the top, “Making a Difference Award,” at The National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards held in Birmingham on Friday 14th July 2017. The award is to celebrate excellence in the support for people with learning disabilities and to pay tribute to those individuals or organisation who excel in providing quality care.

Alex competed against 8 others in his category in the Making a Difference Award at a glitzy night hosted by Sally Phillips from the award winning comedy Smack the Pony, Miranda. The award judges were looking for the person, who has promoted inclusion and community cohesion through their work or role in the community – particularly where this has helped make a positive change happen in people’s lives. They were looking for an outstanding person who worked creatively and passionately to ensure people with a learning disability have equal access and involvement in their community.

Experiencing discrimination first hand led Alex to set up Your IT Now ,using technology, social media and the internet to help people combat social isolation and loneliness. He set up “ Your IT Now” as a micro-provider in 2012, working as a digital innovator he helps people achieve their life goals.

Alex said, ’ As a Independent care ‘micro-provider’ it is just amazing to have the recognition that we are amongst  the best in the UK, its proof that the service we provide here in Somerset is really second to none’, this is an amazing boost to me and the amazing people I help’.
