Racing comes thick and fast for local punters at this time of the year and Taunton will be hosting three meetings in April the first of which is The Family Fun Racemeeting on Thursday April 6th which boasts a total prizepot of £49k.

In addition to the seven races on the card there will be a whole host of other activities to entertain the family including Ferret Racing, a Dog and Duck Display, Fairground Activities and face painting , in addition to which there is a Free Goody Bag for the first 300 children Under 13 through the gate.

The first action on the course is at 2.10pm when the Taunton Civil Service Club Selling Handicap Hurdle race over two miles and half a furlong which is followed half an hour later by the Bluqube Novices’ Hurdle race over two miles three.

Next up is the Nick Ayliffe Memorial Handicap hurdle over three miles, the longest of the day that is due off at 3.15pm.

The Bathwick Tyres Handicap Steeple Chase is the next race run over two miles and two furlongs and this race is worth £6330 to the winner.

The most valuable race on the card is the Bathwick Tyres Handicap Hurdle race (Class 3) over two miles three furlongs which has very generous a prize fund of £11,500 and goes to post at 4.30pm.

The penultimate action is the Pontispool Equine Sports Centre ‘Grassroots’ Maiden Hunters’ Steeple Chase over two miles seven furlongs at 5.05pm.

Racegoers are reminded that they enjoy a considerable discount if they log onto www.tauntonracecourse.co.uk and order their tickets in advance on-line before 10am on the day prior to racing.

A courtesy coach picks up from Taunton Railway Station two hours before racing starts and returns from the course half an hour after the last race has begun.
